Understanding The Value Of Homework

Throughout the world, many people have raised their voice against the load of excessive homework given to students. However, one cannot deny the importance homework has for the students. It has long been in use and still many people support it as it helps students in clearing doubts and practicing the work.

Some researchers have proved that if a family or any member of the family participates in the child’s assignments and homework then it is more likely that the child will be able to complete the work on time. Many people also prefer to hire online teachers who can provide help homework answers. Various benefits of homework are present that needs to be recognized by the people. Some of its benefits are:

It allows the students to go through the study material again. It helps in revising and practicing the topics that have been taught in the class. It also prepares the student for the next class.
It allows the student to recognize the points where they have doubt and the next day they can ask their teachers.
It makes the student responsible and disciplined
It improves the memory and logical skills of a student
It allows a student to get a practical approach towards the subject and get a better understanding of the topic.

However, there is another part to this homework. There are people who think that it has no practical use. Alfie Kohn a famous author had once said that homework is only pain and has no gain. Some believe that for high school students there is no connection between academic achievement and homework.

Instead of teaching, homework only reduces the child’s interest from learning. For some families homework is just a burden, as parents don’t have enough time to help their child. In such cases parents have to struggle a lot to get the children work done.

The bottom line is that the homework is an important part of the education but one has to understand that overloading students with work is completely unacceptable. Researchers have revealed that until second grade, study of 20-30 minutes is sufficient and from third to sixth grade, study for 30-60 minutes is sufficient.

It is after the seventh grade when student should start putting extra effort to their work. If possible, parents should also participate in their child’s work. Online tutors can also be of great help for those students whose parents are not able to give time.
